Rakuten Advertising is a global digital marketing company providing custom advertising solutions across their affiliate and media network. We were tasked with creating a short and impactful film that expressed their new brand message which was due to launch in 5 weeks. With the short time frame and COVID limitations imposed on filming, we chose an all-stock library approach. Shutterstock's agency service helped us find unique shots from select filmmakers exclusively licensed to Shutterstock. We took Rakuten's "wave" identity into 3D to create an element that expresses the connection between advertisers and their networks in a dynamic way. We also colourised elements in the footage purple which is Rakuten's primary brand colour. Combined with the "wave" this gave the film a strong Rakuten identity, proving that stock if handled correctly, can provide a look and feel that is unique to a brand.
